Petridamm is a street connecting Dierkow with the centre of the Hanseatic city and campus town of Rostock as well as with the regional road network. First recorded mention of Dierkow dates back to 1320, barely a century after Rostock itself was founded. The district lies 13 metres above the Baltic Sea level, high enough to give it an amazing view of the city panorama and across the ocean.


Petridamm is served by the M1 tram line, with only one stop to go before you reach the city port. Crossing the river on Petribrücke will take you to the eastern downtown, Östliche Altstadt, in around ten minutes. Here, you will see St. Peter’s, built on a river island and towering high above the Warnow. Alter Markt outside the church’s west portal is the oldest market square of Rostock. The restoration of its Gothic spire in 1994 signalled the recovery of this well-appointed part of the Hanseatic city that is equally popular among young and old with its scenic and narrow shopping streets and gastronomic venues. The Holzhalbinsel shopping centre lies within walking distance, covering all day-to-day needs. Dierkow also boasts convenient access to local and long-haul transportation: The A19 motorway along the Baltic seaboard and the B105 is only a car ride of a few minutes away.


Lately, a large number of trees has been planted and attractive green areas have been created in preparation of the BUGA 2025 federal horticultural show. As a result of these efforts that produce steadily more infrastructure, especially for families, the district keeps getting lovelier by the day. Located directly in the vicinity are the Käthe Kollwitz, secondary music school, the Michaelschule comprehensive school and an integrative day nursery.
