Formerly known as „Red Wedding“, this Berlin area, which today belongs to Berlin-Mitte, has become a colorful and multicultural neighborhood. The former worker’s district enjoys an increasing popularity with young families, artists and start-ups – not surprisingly, thanks to the area’s good supply of well renovated historical “Altbau” real estate and excellent connections to the public transport system. Traditionally a residential district, Wedding’s composition has changed considerably in the past decade and has become home to a vibrant and colorful scene that boasts wonderful restaurants, small low budget cafés, wild bars and exciting little shops. Many artistic and social initiatives contribute to the district’s communal life. Prices for Berlin real estate in Wedding are still relatively low – according to the “WohnmarktReport” 2013 survey, the quoted rents for 2012 however increased by ten percent.
Enjoy life in your new apartment: Berlin Wedding breathes authenticity
Architecturally, Wedding is characterized by tall residential buildings from the turn of the 19th century that house spacious apartments with high stucco decorated ceilings and large double doors. The most popular areas are in the district’s north, where Wedding’s two large recreational areas – Schillerpark and Volkspark Rehberge – are located. Both parks are listed garden memorials with vast lawns and beautiful paths that are ideal for sports and recreation. In winter you can even go tobogganing! Schillerpark, the older of the two, was restructured in the early 20th century and is thus considered Berlin’s oldest “Volkspark” (public park). The southern area of Wedding between Nauener Platz and Westhafen benefits from its proximity to Berlin’s historical center and its picturesque location on the Spandauer Schiffskanal channel that separates Wedding from Moabit. Plötzensee lake, one of Berlin’s central swimming destinations that features a small beach, can be found here.
